My First Craft Show!

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Ever since I opened my own Etsy shop I've been dreaming and wishing someday I could be a part of a craft show and rent a table and make an adorable display. I drool over craft show display tables all the time! Seriously, you can see my Pinterest board here. Well, guess what?! It's actually happening now! I was thinking about doing the big fall market craft show here in town, but realized it would be way too much money and work for my very first craft show. So I found something smaller to participate in through kijij.ca under "events." It's an Ovarian Cancer fundraising event and it's only $20 to rent a 6ft table, and tables and chairs are provided, .. and it's inside. It's a show up and pay kind of thing, so hopefully I get a spot for sure! Anyway, I've been working really hard at finding and making displays for my products and I wanted to share all my work with you! I'm super excited.

Hubby helped me make my necklace display. I love it! Three wooden dowels I picked up from the hardware store, and a flat piece of wood from dad inlaw's scrap pile. I stained it too. Since I have no idea if the tables provided will be by walls, I wanted to make sure all my displays were free standing.  {inspiration}

This huge frame came from the thrift store for $4 and I hot glued twine strings to the sides so I could pin on my earring cards with mini clothespins. I found a couple bracket pieces at the hardware store for cheap so we screwed them on the bottom corners so it would stand. I love it!!!! I didn't want to paint it because all of my display stuff is kind of a rustic antique wood look with whites and pinks.

I found this little silver swivel piece at the thrift store as well for like $2.
It's perfect for my button earrings!

For my infinity scarves I'm using this thrifted basket. I don't have a lot of scarves made and I'm currently working on another. They really don't take long, but this one's taking me awhile cause I've been working on a ton of other things as well.

I made display cards for my baby headbands! I had been wondering how I could display them and I was just going to put them in little plastic baggies, but I like this so much better! Recycled cardboard, .. just like all my other product display cards!

I love that my beautiful baby niece gets to show off my headbands!
I really like my price tags, by the way. I saw that idea somewhere on Pinterest and just had to do it too. I think it's perfect to have your product photo and price together.. no room for confusion. {although I do need to edit this price tag to include the size of headbands}

My rings are in my favorite little milkglass dish that is filled with clear filler bead things I picked up at the dollar store. Love how they just poke right in and stand upright.

I'm using a couple of my cute dollar store plates for displaying some hair accessories.

Picked up a cheap plate and bowel at the thrift and glued them to this candle holder I already had to make this super cute tiered stand for my hair clippies! I just love making my own displays!

My magnet display is a dollar store pizza pan along with a large frame stand I picked up at the thrift store.

Look at this adorable little piece I found for .99 cents at the thrift store! It's so cute, and just had to bring it home. And it's so perfect for displaying my business cards! I love vintage bicycle things! It totally matches some of my shop display stuff, like my cardboard earrings cards {they are stamped with a vintage bike stamp, and some of my hair pin cards}

I thought it would be cute to display my stamped gift tags as though they were spilling from this milkglass goblet piece I have. Not sure though...

These are the little baggies I'm using for customer sales- so cute right!?
I got a pack of brown paper lunch bags from the dollar store, cut the tops off with decorative scissors and stamped my favorite bicycle stamp along with my custom shop stamp. So adorable!

My banner is made from some burlap material I found at Walmart. I printed out my letters and then laid the letters behind the burlap triangles and because the material is kind of see through I was able to trace on top with paint! Came out so cute! I just hot glued the triangles to white ribbon and will hold it in place with little safety pins.{banner inspiration}

And here it all is together!
{ignore the wooden rack on the wall. That's what I normally hang my necklaces on}

I got a mirror from the dollar store so customers can try things on!
I thought it would be cute to use my little decor wall boxes for height and more display area.

I came across this cute little craft show apron tutorial using a pillowcase, so I found this pretty floral pink pillow case at the dollar store and my mom in law sewed it up for me. I did the ribbon ties a little different. I love love love my little craft show apron! I'll keep my calculator, pens, paper and whatever else I might need in my little pockets! I'll feel so organized!

So what do you think?!

Any tips or suggestions from any pros out there? : )

The event will be held Saturday, July 14th. I still have a few things to finish up before then. I'll let ya know how it all turns out.. with photos to share of course!

Stay tuned... !

Master Bedroom: Headboard Makeover

Tuesday, July 3, 2012

Hey, remember that headboard project I've mentioned over the past uncountable months? Ya, the one that has taken me 100 years to finish. Procrastination, that's my success! Well, we've actually been kind of mostly finished with it for a while, so I thought I would finally share!

THIS is the ever spoken of headboard that I picked up for TWO BUCKS last winter at a restore store.

Gorgeous, right? haha... Not yet of course. But for $2 bucks I thought it was worth it. And I also purchased two wooden bed knobs at the same store for $2 as well.

This headboard was a killer mess to paint! This was my first big painting project and I messed up a little. I spray painted it black, then I think I scraped the side while vacuuming one day so I sanded the spot and fixed it. Then I thought I needed to do a clear protective spray over the whole thing, so I sprayed it with Krylon's clear spray... BAD DECISION! .... It was like spraying dust. Ya it wasn't good. So I light sanded the whole thing and sprayed a little again. ... good grief. What a pain.

Then I painted the little accent line gray. Isn't it sweet?

The headboard needed legs, so Hubby and I came up with a plan and headed to the hardware store for some wood.

After much measuring...

Sawing ...

 and screwing into place...

the headboard now stands! ...
{but is actually leaning against the wall until we feel like attaching it to the bed frame!)

And I finally JUST painted the bed knobs, so now I feel like it's done.. appearance-wise anway!

SO... here's a look at our room before our headboard and other prettiness

 {okay, this is an old photo from last year. Our bed is on another side of the room now and we've had curtains for quite some time now and our night stands have had a makeover since then too !! I just didn't take any other photos I guess until I got the headboard standing}

And here is the NOW.....

I love it!!
Yes, new duvet cover too! I had been wanting something WHITE for awhile, and last year I found this on sale for like $30 so I snagged it up and didn't put it on until I got new sheets for our bed- gray sheets!

I got my chevron pillow covers from etsy and would still like to find a few more pillows to dress it up. I also got a gray pillow case for our body pillow so everything would match :) I'd really love a cute mustard yellow throw to drape somewhere at the foot of the bed.

I love having our Christmas lights draped around the headboard! It's so cozy and romantic and makes pictures look so sweet. I made the little felt heart garland for last Valentine's Day. It's so cute I just can't make myself take it down. It stays.

I've been debating whether or not to change the nightstands to white because I'm not really sure I like the bold yellow.. but then, the more I see it all together in these photos I like the yellow more.

Our bedroom is coming along!
... I still don't have anything on the walls!

Dollar Store Owl Gets A New Look

Sunday, June 24, 2012

Hello Hello! Did you all forget about me?!.. I wouldn't blame you if you did. I've been MIA for a very long time on my little blog here and have been feeling sad about not keeping up with anything or sharing any tid bits. So I thought I'd share a fun and quick little makeover I did tonight!

I found this sad little owl at the dollar store today for $2.

 .. it cried for me to take it home and give it some TLC. So I gave in to the little cutie and in my basket he went.

The wings were like a foamy tree bark feeling material, so I wanted to remove those. It was too hard to pick at it, so he got a little bird bath and soaked for awhile in the suds. Aaahhh, that looks relaxing..

After soaking for like 2 minutes the tree bark foam junk peeled off like a charm! ...

.. but then there was this layer of weird stuck hard glue... I couldn't get it off so I soaked him for like 10 minutes. Then I was able to peel it all right off easily.

He's a little terracotta owl underneath! :)

After he was all dried off, I set up a little spot on my balcony and sprayed away using Kylon's Bauhaus Gold.

So much cuter, right!?

Oh ya, let me introduce you to my lovely little piano! I got it for free from Kijiji! It was actually quite the ordeal trying to get help for picking it up and moving it here. One mover kept falling through and wouldn't keep to his word and I thought it was never going to happen, but finally we found a nice mover guy and my piano finally made it to its new home. I love it! It needs work and a tune up, but for now it's perfect and plays great! And my sweet little owl looks pretty cute chillin' up there too!

... aah, it feels nice to blog a project again : )

My Adorable Niece Modeling the Bloom Band

Tuesday, May 1, 2012

Look at my adorable niece wearing the Bloom Band I made her!!

She is just the most precious baby I've ever seen!

And doesn't the Bloom Band look so good on her?

I just cannot stop staring at the top photo! I think I open that photo on my computer about 10 times (probably more) a day and just gaze at her adorable-ness! Goodness, why does living so far away have to be so hard!!!???

She's a MUCH better model than a teddy bear or balloon!!

Just added my first Bloom Baby Band to the shop today!
Hope to add more soon. I'm slow at getting things into the shop, I know!
